Anne Rynearson

Artist Statment

My work mingles representation with abstraction, emphasizing an intimate experience of landscape. My compositions are derived from finding balance between chaos and order; they live as fractured amalgamations featuring elements of symbolic and observed natural objects (woods, rivers, sky) and man-made constructs (grids, property lines, field layouts). I am interested in the transformation of the natural environment through time and human involvement and explore this narrative through the particular setting and personal experiences of my origins in rural Minnesota. My studio process involves the use of photographic processes, incorporation of plats and maps with acrylic paint and other materials. Through multiple layers of paint and a willingness to experiment, the images resolve into independent, invented compositions.
