Artist Statment

Observing human behavior, its variety, humor, and intensity, inform my work. For many years this was expressed by using the figure itself, based on drawings and photographs. Recently, working directly from life, I have substituted still life objects and patterned fabrics to suggest interaction. Sometimes carved birds or clay sculptures are surrogates for human figures and they engage in dialogue with each other or the cloth behind them. In this way I am able to celebrate the sensuality of paint and the joy of color.
