Suejin Jo

Artist Biography

Suejin Jo, Korean born abstract painter based in New York, studied with Stamos and Vytlacil at the Art Students League where she won the McDowell Award juried by Richard Pousette D'art and Romare Bearden.  One often finds dichotomy in Jo's work such as delicate lines with masses of color or in the theme of "yin and yang" seen in recent Tide paintings.  Jo's most recent solo show was in Knokke-Heist in Belgium, 2014.  Jo's work was cited in the New York Times twice in reviews of the Parrish Art Museum shows.  Jo's work was featured in the US Embassies in Indonesia and Mexico, and in the 2012 State Department calendar, "Homage to American Women Artists". Among the awards Jo received is the Jacob and Gwendolyn Lawrence Solo Exhibition Award 2008, sponsored by the NY Artists Equity Association and juried by DC Moore Gallery.
