Susan Maakestad captures post-urban marginal spaces in exaggerated colors that supersede the banal and suggest a most profound atmosphere where light and land are at play together. She has a M.F.A. from The University of Iowa. She has been a fellow at the MacDowell Colony and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts. Maakestad was the recipient of a regional N.E.A. fellowship in 1988. She resides in Memphis, TN.
