Jane Culp: Landscape Paintings of Rugged Wilderness

Jane Culp:
Landscape Paintings of Rugged Wilderness
The Painting Center is pleased to present a show of new work by the landscape painter Jane Culp.
Jane Culp is showing watercolors and oils of Rugged Yet Fragile Land at the Painting Center October 31 - November 25, 2006. Her art is worked from life in the wildfire prone, dry deserts of Southern California and from a chain of small boundary islands off the coast in Downeast Maine. Culp is a veteran landscape painter known on both coasts for her intrepid, gutsy work, particularly of contested places. The paintings are about the experience of light and color making very physical and painterly form derived from the Western tradition of figure painting and plasticity. Culp’s art is currently part of the show ” Yosemite; Art of an American Icon” opening in the Autry Museum of the American West in Los Angeles,Ca., and traveling to the Oakland Museum and the Nevada Museum of Art. Her landscapes are represented in over a dozen museums across the country.
