After 16 years in Soho, we are proud to announce that The Painting Center is moving to Chelsea. Several months ago, when our landlord discontinued our lease, The Painting Center members and Board of Advisors seized the opportunity to seek a more advantageous location.  We have found a wonderful new gallery space at 547 W. 27th St. and are writing to ask for your support during this transition.

 

The Painting Center members and Advisory Board are excited and energized by our upcoming move. We will be able to build on the reputation of the organization and present outstanding exhibitions in a more accessible and visible location.  We are pleased that reviews of Painting Center exhibitions in the past have appeared in distinguished publications such as Art in America, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, The New Art Examiner, The New York Observer, The Partisan Review, Art News, Artforum and online. We look forward to mounting the many new exhibitions that are planned. In addition to the renovation of our gallery space, we will be working to broaden our audience and develop new outreach and education initiatives. The Painting Center will continue its commitment to support the work of emerging, mid-career, and under-represented artists, recognize exceptional achievement in painting, and foster dialogue about painting between artists and the community.

 

The members, staff and Advisory Board of The Painting Center hope that you will consider making a contribution at this crucial juncture to support our mission and renewal. We look forward to quickly completing renovations and emerging as a larger and more visible organization. Please give whatever you can and help us sustain The Painting Center’s legacy as a vital and dynamic place for painters and those who love painting.
