Al Peters: Drawings 2011-2013

The Painting Center is pleased to announce as part of a two-person show Recent Paintings of Al Peters in one-half of the main gallery and Drawings 2011-2013 in the Project Room. "What I am after are dense, complex, non-didactic images, wherein the poetry is readily accessible. Delectation and delight in art are not trivial or superficial concepts and must be made profound and fundamentally invigorating as they are absolutely essential for human well-being and development. I have always been gratefully nurtured, informed and sustained by an unshakable faith in the power of form(s)." Al Peters was born in Detroit, Michigan and received his BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Peters was the recipient of a scholarship to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine where he studied with John Button, Robert Andrew Parker and Bob Cronbach. From 1970 to 1976, he was an instructor in the Fine Arts Department of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and is currently teaching Art History Survey at Mercy College, Manhattan Campus, in New York City. He has been a member of The Painting Center in Chelsea, New York City since November 2014. His art has been shown in New York City, Minneapolis, Chicago, Vermont, Florida and is in numerous private collections.
