RECEPTION: Thursday, january 9, 5 - 8 pm
The Painting Center is pleased to present Beautiful Margins, an inspiring exhibition curated by Anna Patalano, which is dedicated to showcasing the remarkable paintings and mixed media works created by artists who find themselves marginalized in our contemporary culture. This exhibition aims to not only celebrate their artistic prowess but also challenge age biases while fostering a renewed appreciation for their creative contributions. Artists include: Ellen Gordon, Jyoti Desai, Lina Morielli, Mary Newcomb and Oli Kambeitz.
The exhibition Beautiful Margins provides a platform for artists to display their works and deconstruct stereotypes and societal norms by presenting works that transcend conventional boundaries of style and offer fresh artistic and personal perspectives. This exhibition will present an eclectic range of artistic styles, ranging from gestural, non-representational imagery to contemporary figuration to harder-edge abstraction. Each piece will explore themes such as transformation, identity, resilience, and the profound insights that accompany age.
The exhibition will serve as a testament to the diverse life experiences and emotions that these artists infuse into their works. Beautiful Margins is more than an exhibition; it is a movement to honor and celebrate the artistic brilliance of mature women artists who have long been sidelined. By showcasing their works, we aspire to inspire change attitudes, break down stereotypes, and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable art world that recognizes the value of artists irrespective of their age.
