Enrico Riley: Around the Kitchen Table
exhibition dates: May 22 - June 16, 2012
reception: Thursday, May 24, 6 - 8 pm
Enrico Riley's new body of work has embraced more of the intuitive both in terms of process and in terms of subject matter. He is trying to work with the attitude that many sources and types of subject matter can influence his work and that this information can be deployed in a nonlinear fashion. There are no set rules about color, composition, style or subject matter. Through the activity of making, the works are allowed to find what they need to exist. Enrico Riley received a BA in Visual Studies from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and an MFA in painting from Yale University in New Haven, CT. He has twice been awarded residencies at the Vermont Studio Center. Some of his solo exhibitions include Giampietro Gallery in New Haven, CT, Pageant Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, and The Karl Drerup Art Gallery in Plymouth, NH. His work has also been included in group exhibitions at Lori Bookstein Fine Art in New York City, Reeves Contemporary in New York City, the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City, and the Museum for the National Center of Afro-American Arts in Roxbury, MA, among other venues. Enrico was awarded an American Academy of Arts and Letters Purchase Prize for his painting, "Giant Steps," which was placed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA. In 2008, Enrico was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship for painting.
