Opening RECEPTION: Thursday, April 26, 6 - 8 PM
The Painting Center is pleased to present Robin Feld’s exhibition, Arrivals and Departures. In developing the work, Feld has questioned how real life events influence one's art when using the language of abstraction. She postulates on how the subject one paints can be driven by emotional factors, which interact with a set of visual concerns. The feeling of work built over time, the use of a buried grid-- pouring, blotting, scraping, to reveal layers of paint---trying to create order out of chaos, continue to be central to her work. Calligraphic lines, which the artist thinks of as akin to nerve endings, is a point of commonality and continuity. Feld works out of her studio in Brooklyn, New York. Her work has been shown in spaces such as Drawing Rooms in Jersey City, the Fountain Art Fair, Paramount Gallery in Long Island City and the Monmouth Museum. She attended what is now LaGuardia High School, got a BFA at the City College of New York, and studied with various accomplished painters at the Art Students League.
