The Painting Center is pleased to present the exhibition, Ethereal Communication, curated by Shazzi Thomas and Chase Cantwell. This group exhibition of thirteen artists from The Painting Center’s Art File is on view from November 29 - December 22, 2022 in the Main Gallery.
Ethereal Communication explores the subtle and varied ways in which meaning is conveyed. From spoken language to text messages to music to eye contact, ideas and feelings are transmitted. This curated exhibition seeks to look at the ways communication can take on an otherworldly quality–an airiness that feels lighter than this world. This airiness can have many different roots: the artist's spiritual or religious beliefs, the ephemerality of the communication itself or an intensity of emotion.
Ethereal Communication highlights the work of these artists who seek in their own way to communicate, through their artworks, the delicate nature of connection.
The artists in Ethereal Communication include Ann Marie Auricchio, Nicholas Battis, Rebecca LS Buchanan, Sarah Canfield, Robin Colodzin, Barbara Kemp Cowlin, Nancy Daubenspeck, Ginnie Gardiner, Lisa Hess Hesselgrave, Diane Novetsky, Jean Rim, Joan Ryan and Andra Samelson.
