Robert Solomon is an artist, designer, director, printmaker. He divides his time between studios in Philadelphia, PA and Greenwich NJ. He has been widely exhibited across the United States and has participated in residencies at Vermont Studio Center, the Bau Institute, Puglia Italy (Otranto) and La Mama, Spoleto, Italy (Directors workshop). He is a painter and a continuing member of The Painting Center, CFEVA (Philadelphia) and Inliquid (Philadelphia). He is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, University of California Los Angeles (Graduate School of Architecture), Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia (Sculpture, printmaking) and PAFA, Philadelphia PA. His current show at The Painting Center features a transition from the object in landscape to the figure in landscape and back to the object in landscape. The trilogy paintings “The Last Temptation of Saint Anthony” reflect one day of walking through a rapidly changing Chelsea neighborhood. They were captured on iPhone and sketched on paper before becoming paintings. The show is influenced by “The Temptation of St. Anthony by Gustave Flaubert”, the work of Friedrich Nietzsche (Thus Spoke Zarathustra) not to mention Bob Dylan “Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Lands” et al.
