The Painting Center is pleased to announce the exhibition, The Writing on the Wall, running from June 23 through July 18, 2015. Writing is a subversive activity, the marker of both the rise of civilization and its decadence. It is used to express, sell, persuade, calculate, entertain and understand. Visual art that incorporates writing engages the viewer on multiple fronts, where letters, numerals or scribbles bridge the divide between mark making and narrative meaning. This exhibition presents a diverse group of artists exploring the meaning and uses of text in a variety of media, and features a full-color catalog with an essay written by the artist Karen Schiff. Curated by member artists Susan Post, Colleen Randall and Patricia Spergel.

Exhibiting artists: Patricia Aaron, Cande Aguilar, Rosaire Appel, Elliot Appel, Kevin Arnold, Andrew Baron, Elena Berriolo, Lance Boge, John Boone, Kit Callahan, Susan Cohen, Kristina Estell, Lisa Ferber, Brad Fesmire, Carlene Frances, Conny Goelz-Schmitt, Enrico Gomez, Inguna Gremzde, Naomi Grossman, Bill Gusky, Megan Hildebrandt, Monique Johannet, Michelle Kaufman, Kim Kiseok, Kenn Kotara, Janet Lage, Curt LeMieux, Joan Levinson, Jane Logemann, Bachrun LoMele, China Marks, Enzo Marra, Kristina Martino, Winston Mascarenhas, Indira Morre, Janet Mueller, Loren Munk, Leslie Nichols, Bridget O’Rourke, Lisa Olson, James Prez, Leah Raab, Svetlana Rabey, Terry Rosenberg, Dena Schutzer, Laura Shechter, Claude Smith, Melissa Stern, Molly Stevens, Cynthia Stockton-Moore, Dan Tague, Kit Warren, Shawn Watrous and Adam White.
