Marshmellow Clouds, Acrylic and Fabric on borad, 48 x 36, 2024

Searching for the Light, Acrylic and Fabric on Canvas, 60 x 48 inches, 2024

Lisa Petker Mintz is an artist whose process is long and complex. Materials, mark-making, and experimentation are critical to the artist’s process. The artist works from all sides of the canvas, shifting and transforming with each layer of color and material, a reminder that reality is never still. Working on five to twelve paintings at a time, the canvases sweep cinematically across the studio walls. Like nature’s shifting moods, each canvas is suspended in different states of completion, waiting for the artist’s attention. Scissors, brushes, pencils, a spray bottle, palette knife, and an airbrush are just some of the tools used. Petker Mintz leaves no process left unused. Applications of paint move between fast, slow, messy, neat, and sparse. The artist’s excitement of materials and process is palpable. The viewer is compelled to step back and take in what feels chaotic at first sight. Then the sensation of curiosity draws us in. We are pulled closer into the layers, so curiously close we practically push our noses against the glossy surface to gaze into the artist’s world.
