Amy Vensel is a graduate of Syracuse University and has been awarded residencies at the Millay Colony for the Arts, Mark Rothko Art Centre, and Vermont Studio Center. She's the recipient of an Artist Resource Trust Grant, the Harwood Art Center Surface Grant, and the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation Award.
"My painting process has evolved into a system of invented rules and peculiar visual logic. Employing custom-made trowels I create a variety of surfaces – from smooth lustrous planes that echo the backlit screens of today's digital landscape, to thick, hazy films that obscure the painting's history."
