Monica Church
Church is a Hudson Valley based abstract artist who works in painting and collage. She has a BA from Bennington College and an MFA from The University of Kentucky. Her works are in numerous collections including Manugistics, Rockville, MD; Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY; and Women's Studio Workshop, Rosendale, NY.
“My painting is both about the image and materiality of the surface. Layering the transparency of repurposed sailcloth with paint and canvas allows me to investigate how space unfolds. Looking across a painted surface and then literally through the picture plane is a vehicle for this exploration.”
